Let there be carnage3/27/2023 Not counting cameos and build-up, Carnage’s first major appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #361, starting off a three-parter. I’m not going to count Eddie Brock as Toxin, or Flash Thompson as Agent Anti-Venom or whatever. For the sake of simplicity, I’m going to define “Venom” and “Carnage” as characters wearing their respective symbiotes (excluding Peter Parker), or the symbiotes themselves. So let’s take a look at the history of Venom vs. Over time, the two became roughly equals as Carnage became the go-to bad guy for Venom to punch. Venom: Let There Be Carnage has hyped Carnage up as being out of Venom’s league and that was the initial push of the character. He was something so sinister and malevolent that both Spider-Man and Venom knew it was worth it to put aside their differences and take this creep down. Carnage was simpler because he was full-on evil and had no potential for redemption. Even when he was able to accept that Spider-Man was good, they couldn’t co-exist due to their different natures as vigilantes. Outside of his personal delusions and anger issues, he still claimed that he wanted to help the innocent and punish the guilty. Venom was a villain at the time, sure, but he was also on the border of becoming more. Since Carnage’s first appearance in 1992, the idea has always been to make a darker, scarier Venom. Carnage, Venom’s main villain, gets more fanfare by appearing in the sequel where our hero is fully formed. By letting Venom build himself up on his own, flanked by some rather mundane villains, it gave more meaning to Cletus Kasady showing up in the post-credits. Much like how the Justice League movie decided to take its time by giving us Steppenwolf of all people, the first Venom movie had Carlton Drake (who hasn’t appeared in the comics since the early 90s) and Riot (the most forgettable of all of Venom’s comic children). The MCU Spider-Man has yet to meet an Osborn, guys like Thanos and Darkseid started out as ominous benefactors, and the existence of Heath Ledger Joker was merely a cliffhanger tease in Batman Begins. Doom, it’s a breath of fresh air when, say, Man of Steel only makes an Easter egg reference to Lex Luthor instead of going directly for that confrontation. When there are four different Fantastic Four movies, and they’re all about emphasizing Dr. The mid-credits sequence ties everything nicely and we can look forward to more alien carnage and mayhem in the future.Something that impresses me with a superhero movie like Venom is when it doesn’t rush directly into the expected villain. Oh, and there is even a reference to Cervantes and Quixote too.Īpart from Hardy, Michelle Williams as Anne, Eddie’s ex-fiancée, Reid Scott as Dan Lewis, Anne’s doctor fiancé and Peggy Lu as convenience store owner Mrs Chen reprise their roles. Casady, like all serial killers in popular culture, seems well-read, quoting everything from Shakespeare to Ray Bradbury. Spider-Man Universe (everything is quantum and a multiverse now). There is an engaging literary tone to the second movie in Sony’s The bromance between Eddie and Venom is sweet and funny, the action set pieces are a 100 per cent awesome, and while the Ducati does not feature much - thanks to Venom trashing it after a particularly nasty break-up - there are other chases featuring a classic car to keep us amused. Kasady asks Eddie to witness his execution and all hell breaks loose as another alien symbiote, Carnage, in Kasady’s body, runs riot. With Venom’s help, Eddie is able to find where Kasady has buried the bodies and his journalistic career gets its much-needed boost. Kasady will only speak to Eddie, and so the detective in charge of the case, Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham) contacts Eddie. Journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is still having troubles with his loquacious house/body guest, Venom, the alien symbiote, who would rather bite off heads than eat chocolate, and a pair of hens called Sonny and Cher. Storyline: The odd couple has to resolve their differences to combat a greater evil.Cast: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, Woody Harrelson, Peggy Lu, Sian Webber.

Flycut rusty surface3/27/2023 It should also be done carefully to ensure that the flywheel turns true on the lathe. Setting up a flywheel on a lathe takes time. The other method of resurfacing is by cutting. Water-based coolants must have a rust inhibitor to avoid rust spots from building up on a resurfaced flywheel. It is also important to use the correct coolant for good cutting action and long stone life. Hard stones, on the other hand, are recommended for cast iron flywheels. Softer stones are ideal for grinding forged steel flywheels. The latter are more costly but they last longer. Another option is dry grinding with CBN stones. To achieve the proper surface finish, wet grinding with silicone carbide stones can be done. A flywheel depth gauge is needed to measure the amount of recess before and after resurfacing. When a stepped flywheel is used such as in Honda and Volkswagen, same amounts of metal must be removed or shaved off on both surfaces to maintain the correct clutch height and pressure. A dedicated grinder should be used for a stepped or recessed flywheel which needs to be ground. However, a head and block grinding equipment can only handle flat flywheels and consumes more time to set up than a dedicated flywheel grinder. There is actually a dedicated flywheel grinder, but grinding can also be done using a head and block grinding machine. It usually takes 3 to four minutes to grind a flywheel’s surface. A grinder removes the hard spots, leaving a smooth and homogenous surface. Most prefer the grinding method for resurfacing most flywheels. There are two methods being used in resurfacing flywheels: through cutting or grinding. How long does it take to resurface a flywheel? In many cars, it means the engine must be removed and reinstalled to perform this job. When too much metal has to be taken off during the resurface, the part will be too thin, and will fail to meet the specifications of the manufacturer for proper operation, weight and safety.īecause the flywheel is connected to the crankshaft of the engine, the transmission and the engine should be separated to remove the flywheel for a resurface. It is highly recommended for you to stop using your car when the clutch begins to slip, and have it fixed immediately. The amount of metal cut off during resurfacing flywheels depend on the depth of the hot spots. Doing so will expose fresh metal to the disk, and gives a slight roughening of the surface which will enhance the grip over the previously polished surface. Resurfacing flywheels refer to the process when the part is fixed to a machine that is able to cut a very thin layer of metal off the surface. So what does it mean to resurface a flywheel? This is why manufacturers also recommend resurfacing flywheels when the throwout bearing, pressure plate or disk is replaced. As a result, the hardened areas are not evenly distributed across the surface. Hot spots happen due to uneven application of heat. It gets too hard or in some cases, it develops cracks and blisters called “hot spots” on the surface. Failure to resurface a worn flywheel will cause premature wear of the newly installed clutch and most clutch suppliers won’t honor a warranty claim if the flywheel was not resurfaced or was resurfaced improperly upon installation of the clutch.Īs mentioned previously, eventually, the surface of the flywheel gets damaged due to friction and heat. But if it no longer is in a condition like when it was new, then it needs to be resurfaced prior to installing the new clutch. If the surface is flat and without defects, there is no need for resurfacing flywheels. The inspection will include: using a straightedge and feeler gauge to measure the flywheel’s flatness, checking the surface for cracks, and checking for grooving or hard spots which refer to discolored areas that are slightly lifted above the surrounding surface. Upon removal of the old clutch, the flywheel should also be thoroughly inspected to check its condition. The additional thermal stress can result in warpage, heat cracks and the buildup of hard spots in the flywheel’s surface. When the clutch begins to slip, more heat is produced. The flywheel’s mass absorbs and dispels the heat. Normal clutch operation produces plenty of heat and friction.

Hopper dredge3/27/2023 Material is either deposited at the placement site by opening the hatches at the bottom of the ship.Depending on the type of project, the dredged material will be unloaded/discharged in one of three ways: Once fully loaded, the vessel sails to the unloading or placement site, where the dredged material is offloaded. These are very flexible and can operate independently of other equipment and, since they are self-propelled, can transport the dredged material over long distances. The trailing suction hopper dredger is a self-propelled, sea-going vessel that can perform trailing dredging up to a depth of 20m and be equipped to conduct grab dredging to depths up to 20m and rainbowing up to the 23m distance. The Trailing suction hopper dredge is equıipt with one or two suction pipes with a drag head to collect the soil, sand, silt, and gravel from the seabed. The trailing suction hopper dredger is designed for maintenance dredgers, land reclamation, beach nourishment, and capital dredging operations. They need us to translate that experience into better equipment. Royal IHC needs the practical experience of the dredging companies. However, as on-board crews get smaller, and onshore support teams get larger, the role played by automation is only set to become more significant in the future.įor Jeroen Peters, it is the versatility of the Bachmann platform that will provide an important benefit. Given the long history of dredging (first observed in channels in the river Nile 6,000 years ago), the subject of automation is obviously quite new. Bachmann to integrate all this automation into the control system. “To improve efficiency, we add automatic controllers like, a pump controller (maintaining flow) or suction pipe control to steer and safeguard the pipe position or a controller that maintains the trailing speed,” added Pieter de Boer, Royal IHC’s lead engineer. This enables us to configure the desired functionality of the control and monitoring system very efficiently.” The Easydredge series vessels are installed with standard automation and control equipment “In every case our dredging knowledge is captured in our own modular software platform called Digisys. We use suppliers like Rockwell, Cimplicity, Proface, Moxa, Siemens, Wago, but we also build several control systems with the help of Bachmann hardware and software,” said Peters. “We are flexible in the brands/suppliers we use to build the system. We can reduce lead times and reduce costs.”Īccording to him, IHC Dredge Control System focuses on operational efficiency and is designed to be very operator friendly. “This is a very efficient way of shipbuilding. “The Easydredge series not only uses a standard design the vessels are also installed with standard automation and control equipment,” explained Jeroen Peters, engineering manager at Royal IHC Systems. For larger hopper capacities, Royal IHC directs its clients to its Beagle range of standardized TSHDs or custom-built vessels. The Easydredge is IHC’s range of smaller-sized TSHDs, with hopper capacities from 500 up to 4000 cubic metres. Royal IHC recently decided to use Bachmann hardware and software on its standardized Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers.

Air raid alert britain3/27/2023 After the bombing of Guernica, Gaumont-British began distributing newsreels on air-raid safety to British cinemas. In April 1937, the Air Raid Wardens' Service was created which aimed to seek some 800,000 volunteers (some 200,000 people had joined by mid-1938, and following the Munich Crisis of September 1938 another 500,000 had enrolled). This department replaced the earlier subcommittees and took overall control of the British response to passive air defence. With the rise of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany's remilitarisation during the 1930s, a further Home Office committee, the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Department, was created in March 1935. Together with ideas around the building of air raid shelters, evacuations of people and blackout requirements these were all termed passive air defence. Every single person would need a gas mask which meant nearly 40 million would be required. The use of gas attacks in the First World War played heavy on the decisions and protection via gas masks was a core decision taken by the committee. The new committee, known as Air Raid Precautions, was headed by the then Lord Privy Seal, Sir John Anderson.ĪRP Warden Service Efficiency Warrant issued to NH Karanjia, Bombay, June 1942 with Acknowledgement of Gratitude Cardįor the next ten years this committee looked into issues of new aerial weapons development and the possible impact on civilians. In 1924, the Committee of Imperial Defence set up a subcommittee to look at what measure could be taken to protect the civil population from aerial attack. īetween 19 many of the duties of the Civil Defence Service were resurrected through the Civil Defence Corps.ĭuring the First World War Britain was bombed by Zeppelins and Gotha bombers and it was predicted that large-scale aerial bombing of the civilian population would feature prominently in any future war. The Civil Defence Service was stood down towards the end of the war in Europe on. Over 127,000 full-time personnel were involved at the height of the Blitz but by the end of 1943 this had dropped to 70,000. In all some 1.5 million men and women served within the organisation during World War Two. During the war almost 7,000 Civil Defence workers were killed. The Auxiliary Fire Service was set up in 1938 to support existing local fire services, which were amalgamated into a National Fire Service in 1941.įrom 1941 the ARP officially changed its title to Civil Defence Service to reflect the wider range of roles it then encompassed. Women were involved in ARP services through the Women's Voluntary Service. They managed the air raid sirens and ensured people were directed to shelters. With increased enemy bombing during the Blitz, the ARP services were central in reporting and dealing with bombing incidents. Heavy curtains and shutters were required on all private residences, commercial premises, and factories to prevent light escaping and so making them a possible marker for enemy bombers to locate their targets. Every local council was responsible for organising ARP wardens, messengers, ambulance drivers, rescue parties, and liaison with police and fire brigades.įrom 1 September 1939, ARP wardens enforced the " blackout". Government consideration for air raid precautions increased in the 1920s and 30s, with the Raid Wardens' Service set up in 1937 to report on bombing incidents. Air Raid Precautions ( ARP) refers to a number of organisations and guidelines in the United Kingdom dedicated to the protection of civilians from the danger of air raids.

Fibbage game review3/27/2023 The game's signature gameplay mechanic is its multi-device multiplayer where, instead of using the controller, all players use smartphones and computers (anything with a web browser) to interact with the game in secret (by directing their web browsers to the Fibbage game website, later changed to the Jackbox.TV website). Players get points both for answering the questions correctly and for fooling other players into choosing their fake answers. It was later published digitally for the Xbox One on Augand for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on September 16, 2014.ĭeveloped by the creators of the You Don't Know Jack series (and hosted by series' host Cookie Masterson), Fibbage switches up the trivia question format with player-driven fake answers (called "lies"). Since large gatherings are still incredibly uncommon, the ability to play with COM players or via Nintendo Switch Online would’ve immediately justified the asking price.Fibbage is an multi-device multiplayer trivia party game developed and published digitally by Jackbox for the Amazon Fire TV on March 18, 2014. Considering the portability of the Nintendo Switch, it would be cool to see Jackbox dip their feet into offline versions of these games. It’s just worth noting for those unfamiliar that this won’t have the same functionality as your typical Switch title. This has been customary of Jackbox titles from the beginning, so it’s not surprising by any means. Considering the only way to interact with the game is a smart device accessing Jackbox’s website, you’re not gonna get much further than the title screen without an internet connection. That smart device interfacing that Jackbox is known for however, is also its biggest hurdle in some ways. It makes for a stellar party title with a surprising amount of nuance for a game you control with a smartphone. The challenge comes from using what you know combined with context clues to trip up other players and rack up the highest score. While previous Jackbox titles were mostly driven by their irreverence and thematic charm, Fibbage presents a very straight forward concept and keeps things simple by focusing on the contestants. This particular edition, Fibbage XL, is packed with additional questions and even streamer-friendly features like Twitch verification. This lasts for three rounds, and the user with the most points at the end is declared winner. Players are awarded points for successfully sniffing out the right answer, and even more points for every player fooled into picking their lie. Each response is then anonymously displayed (along with the correct answer) and players are given a limited amount of time to uncover the truth. Utilizing Jackbox’s smart device functionality, up to eight players are given a prompt on their screen to answer an obscure trivia question not with the correct answer, but an answer that only sounds correct. This comes together in Fibbage XL, another in a long line of favorites from Jackbox Games. Originally released in 2015 (2017 on Switch) and made famous in The Jackbox Party Pack collection, this modern take on the dictionary game is now available on the Nintendo eShop as an individual title for those looking to purchase the game separate from the entire pack. But in an age where most answers are a web search away, what might be more interesting is what exactly the players don’t know, and how long can one survive navigating a sea of misinformation. Common trivia games are always focused on drilling the player on what they know.

But getting VE Configure to actually recognize the device connected to your Mac via the MK3 cable takes some special one-time setup. Getting CrossOver installed and then getting VE Configure installed and running is very simple. I have no connection with any of this software, just someone who got it working. Parallels is $80 plus the cost of Windows. $40 (or $60 depending on the version) total. The nice part of using CrossOver vs Parallels is that you don't actually need a Microsoft Windows license making it much cheaper. There is a free trial available if you wish to test it out first. So I have a bluetooth dongle, a usb - Mk3, a multiplus, 4 mac computers, internet, batteries BUT I can't configure the Multi!!! WTF? Tried borrowing a windows laptop from work but security wouldn't let me download any programs (VEConfig) why not put mk3 in Venus? Anyone? Beuller? Tried Rpi.Venus but that is not compatible. Installed wine and got VEConfigure to go but 'port not found' after doing the manual tty thing. Thought I'd program my Multi (19**) before I set up but it needed to be run on batteries to do this not AC. I got parallels but didn't finish the install before the trial ran out. As soon as I stand near my Multiplus, I will do a serious test, hoping to get things running. Without telling anything, VictronConnect has installed itself in a subfolder of "Applications" called "Utilities". After a minute or so the application gives up telling: "No devices detected". In MacAppStore, In MacAppStore, push OPEN, the only button there is and let it search for devices - do not cut short. Question: How or where can I DOWNLOAD VictronConnect for a Mac (OS 0.14.3)? If I would have a grid I would not buy all that stuff and as it happens in the middle of the woods, there is no internet either Everything fine until now, except that my devices are 200 kilometers away. When it runs, it pops up a window, with a device search list. Multiple ways lead to the Apple Mac Store, but once on the VictronConnect page there is only an OPEN button and NO DOWNLOAD command. I need to set a couple of things in the Multiplus to get it to accept the genset energy. Got a MultiPlus48/3000/35-16, an MPPT an Orion 48Vdc to 12, with 48V 200Ah batteries and a battery monitor. |
